So yeah, this comes with a rather long and maybe boring story of the pets I've owned in the past, so if you aren't interested feel free to skip over this cut here.
I have owned quite a lot of pets over the years, between the ages of 10-16+ (I forget if I owned anything prior to 10 or past 16, but I know by the age of 18, we had no pets left in the house due to the fact we couldn't afford them any more).
I have owned:
- Several pairs of Hamsters and Gerbils (white, black, brown, grey)
- Birds (canary, budgies and smaller birds that were a family pet)
- Fish (goldfish and tropical fish that were a family pet)
- Terrapins
I have also helped look after:
- Dogs (My grans/friends)
- Budgie (My grans)
- Cats (Neighbours/friends)
- Rats (friends)
The most common pets is our house were either Gerbils/Hamsters or fish, in fact, we had fish up until we couldn't afford the upkeep of the tank any more.
So yeah, now that I am older and now around the house more/have my own money, I've been really thinking about getting myself a pet. Most likely not till I move out my parent's house as we just don't have the room for the hamster cage, though if I can get my boyfriend's consent, I'll get one sooner when he moves into his new flat.
So in this post, I am going to detail what I plan to buy prior to getting my hamster or what I WANT to get and what I do get (I'll update this post or post a new one when I do get one).
So here we go:
Cage
I had several different cages when I had hamsters before, metal ones and plastic ones. I was fairly fond of the cage that I had last which looked a little like this:

I also had a habitrail cage which looked all plastic (plastic tray, plastic sides, plastic lid which you could remove to insert the sky restaurant pictured here - )
I am unsure which type of cage I will pick this time, as when I was a kid, I picked these cause 'they looked cool'.
Accessories
I know that I'll pick up a feeding bowl and a water bottle, though that's kind of obvious. Other than that, I'll get a hamster wheel and maybe one of those little plastic houses that hamsters sometimes like to use as a bed.
Other
Other than the necessary stuff (food, bedding etc) I might buy myself another book on looking after hamsters, as I lost the one I had and it HAS been a while.
