No eggplant? No problem. BDE takes many forms—no dick necessary. And we can't forget that heavy are the hips that bear the strap. So, you know, we can pontificate about that size of that instead.

How to Play

Opposites attract

Sure, complimenting personalities bring people together. It's always good to get along with your significant other or friends, so "birds of a feather flock together," as they say. But let's be honest. That doesn't make for good entertainment. Readers and viewers love a good odd couple, where the two are diametrically different. This can be in personality (good girls and bad boys), appearance (Beauty & the Beast, anyone?), species (ALIEN AND HUMAN LOVE IS REAL!!!1), and so on.

This meme is inspired by this concept and a certain song that probably shows your age if you recognize it. According to Wikipedia, "the lyrics are about a couple who love each other despite being different in just about every way possible." And...that pretty much summarizes the meme, too! (Though, it doesn't have to be love. Hate can be an option.)

HOW TO PLAY
- Comment with your character. In the subject, put info & preferences.
- In the comment, describe your character in a few key words. This is so that people who don't know your canon can see if your character would be a good opposite to theirs.

Reccer's Notes: Lt. Jessie Bellamy performs her first inspection of a Starfleet ship, and she gets the Enterprise in all its chaotic, rulebreaking glory. She's just trying to do her job, but the ship and crew are so far outside the rules that she's having trouble even fitting them into the standards for inspection.

When you read a lot of Star Trek fic, you start to normalize all the wild and irresponsible shit that goes on. This fic provides the perspective of someone who is supposed to evaluate how well the crew are following the rules, and it's fantastic. Lt. Bellamy has to stay on the ship for the duration of the inspection, work with the crew, and survive some of the scrapes the Enterprise gets into. It's hilarious and wonderful.

Recent Reading: The Once and Future Witches

On Monday I finished The Once and Future Witches by Alix Harrow, about a trio of sisters in the American city of "New Salem" in Massachusetts in 1893 who take it upon themselves to revive witches' magic.

The Once and Future Witches dovetails historically with the movement for women's suffrage, creating some parallels between seeking the right to the vote and seeking the right to practice magic. I would have liked to have seen this carried more through the latter half of the novel, but I suppose I can see why it wasn't, particularly given it would be another nearly thirty years before the passage of the 19^th Amendment granting women the right to vote. The suffragettes played a long game.

The core focus of the novel is sisterhood, both blood and otherwise. Harrow presents a beautifully wounded and layered portrait of siblinghood in the relationship between the three protagonists: Bella, the oldest; Agnes, the middle child; and Juniper, the youngest. Raised without a mother (she passed birthing Juniper) under the thumb of their abusive and alcoholic father in rural poverty, all three girls learned early on what they would do to ensure their own survival. And while there is great love between them, there is also great hurt, and by the start of the book, the three are not on speaking terms. Harrow did a great job with the complexity here, and watching their relationships develop and begin to heal was very enjoyable.

Finished Dr. Stone: Science Future

So I caught up with Dr. Stone and made it through the first part of the Science Future ark and it was as expected, fully enjoyable and immersible. I don't think I could ever get bored of this series. Too bad the second part is yet to be available but I am willing to be patient till it is.

And Kohaku is still my favorite.

Kiss of the Vampire

Vampires tend to have a lot of sex appeal. It may be because evil is sexy for some, but not all vampires are evil, so maybe it's because they're bad boys or sultry femme fatales. Maybe people just figure hundreds of years of practice at lovemaking makes vampires really, really good at it. On the other hand, the bloodsucking may be a great fetish source, something about a quick sting of pain followed by pleasure.

When a vampire is hungry and isn't quite so decent or hard up as to lower himself to only buying blood at the butcher's or trapping and draining small animals instead, their dietary supplement of preference is human blood. However, vampires can make the experience of being a drink box not just bearable, but pleasurable for the donor.
